The Story of Paul Irish and The FPD-just another example that proves the so-called-reformation of the FPD was nothing more than an orchestrated PR plan headed by former police chief DAN HUGHES-by Barry Levinson

Barry Levinson

In early March 2015, Fullerton Police Corporal Paul Irish, a twenty plus year veteran, drug recognition expert with an unblemished record of service was terminated.   What did he do that so upset FPD brass lead by Police Chief Danny Hughes that necessitated such severe action?

FPD’s ex chief Dan Hughes

Did he commit some heinous crime such as rape, murder or kidnapping?  NO!    Did he use excessive force against a member of the public?  NO!  Did he commit any other felony or even an alleged misdemeanor crime?  NO!  What got Corporal Paul Irish fired from the FPD?

He conducted an Ethics training course in early September 2014 without specifically telling his bosses that would be the topic of the training.  In other words he basically got fired for teaching ethics to members of the FPD.

I could see how that topic would be taboo by a department run by the likes of one Danny Hughes.  He even had the audacity to state in general terms that he was aware of past ethical breaches in the FPD.  Only in the FPD or in the “Twilight Zone” could such an action take place. (Please remember that the Twilight Zone was fiction but the firing of Paul Irish was and still is reality.)

I guess real ethics and integrity teaching by a FPD officer could not and would not be tolerated by Danny Hughes.

Dan Hughes stated to a City Council member that he hates Barry Levinson and unsucessfully tried to frame Barry Levinson.

Any punishments short of dismissal were not severe enough for our former upstanding police chief.  For Danny Hughes that great reformer of the FPD needed to send an internal message to all Fullerton Police Officers and staff that teaching ethics in the department and how the FPD has sometimes fallen short on that subject would result in swift termination.

The swiftness of the FPD action was startling.  The very next day after the ethics training, Corporal Paul Irish was placed on administrative leave.  Then four months later he received a letter from the FPD informing him that they intended to terminate his City employment and only a month after that was he indeed officially terminated from the FPD.

The Fullerton Police Department rarely acts so quickly in handing out such severe punishment.  But above all else, it is apparent that the one thing Police Chief Danny Hughes can’t tolerate is ethics training and the suggestion that the FPD falls short in that area.

Ethics? … Christian ethics?

What is wrong with you Corporal Paul Irish?  Why haven’t you got with the Public Relations Program that the newly reformed FPD under Police Chief Danny Hughes has no ethics problems and has absolutely no corruption?  After all Acting Police Chief Dan Hughes proclaimed that to a local newspaper during an interview in January 2012.

Not even those responsible for the brutal death of Kelly Thomas were put on administrative leave as quickly as Corporal Paul Irish.

Clearly a RICO investigation by the FBI is warranted and there needs to be a takeover by the US Marshalls of our Fullerton Police Force in order to clean house and get our city police department back on the right course.

As far as the Paul Irish situation is concerned, an honest and fair city council would overrule that termination order and give Corporal Paul Irish, a twenty-year veteran his job back. For to do anything less would be a travesty of justice and just one more clear solid piece of evidence of how corrupt and dirty our FPD and our City of Fullerton still are to this very day!

I have two questions. First is when will OCDA file obstruction of justice charges against DAN HUGHES. Second is why hasn’t Disney Corporation fired DAN HUGHES yet?

Now justice would be DAN HUGHES being fired by Disney Corporation and Paul Irish being reinstated by the FPD.

Justice would be to get Irish reinstated and Hughes locked up and then fired from the tragic Kingdom.

Never happen. DA won’t touch this. Sorry, Go back to picking strawberries and taking pictures of UFO’s in the sky Imbriano.

Anonymous said Hughes going to jail would never happen. Well after the whistle blower allegations by two OCDA former investigators, the odds of that happening just went way up.

Hughes will never go to jail but you assholes just might! Hah!

Will you please listen to the silence of the media on this issue as it is rather deafening, especially the local media. No one but you two guys are covering this. Really gutsy interview at the PD.

Everyone else makes the issue about Joe Felz. I guess no one wants to upset the police even though they need to be arrested themselves. Barry, you and Joe are brave souls. I have tremendous respect for your courage and determination to get the force cleaned up. May the force be with both of you.

More professional courtesy by our men in black.

One person above states that the DA will not touch Dan Hughes. He/she may be right but that will not stop the good people of Fullerton from putting pressure on the OCDA to do the right thing and the legally correct thing. It is more than a real shame but rather a total disgrace that citizens have to pressure their own government to do their jobs properly and honestly.

This story of Paul Irish has legs…very long legs. It is incredible that a police officer with an unblemished 20 year record would be fired for the specific claims made by the FPD.

Once again another great example that shouts to the heavens…Fullerton Police Department thy name is Corruption.

Barry Levinson almost went to jail because Dan Hughes ignored undeniable video evidence that no crime actually took place, yet viciously took the lead going after him in his official position as Police Chief. The chief would not release that video for many months. Mr. Levinson has stated in the past that if he would have stepped outside his house when two Fullerton detectives out of the blue came to his personal residence front door a full month after the alleged bogus incident, he believes that he would have been falsely arrested and beaten up as well. When Mr. Levinson asked at council why it took the FPD an entire month to contact him about this alleged incident, it was none other than former City Manager Joe Felz that stated that the FPD was waiting for the right officer to come back from vacation. What do you suppose Joe Felz and the FPD meant by saying the “right officer”?
In my opinion, Danny Hughes has demonstrated how very dangerous he was as our Fullerton Police Chief. He obviously ignored the evidence that totally vindicated Mr. Levinson that was in his possession the whole time and harassed him with his officers and then participated in the assault of his good name at not one but two City Council meetings. I believe the term describing what transpired against Mr. Levinson is called a Criminal Conspiracy and it was led by Dan Hughes with members of the Fullerton City Council gleefully taking part.

All of this based on nothing but a vindictive political vendetta. It shows how far, how low and how criminal our City Government will stoop to go after someone whose only “crime” was speaking out against City of Fullerton corruption.

Now we know that the dirty actions by the FPD also targets their own when they are honest civil servants. We must ensure that Paul Irish gets his job back if for no other reason than to demonstrate that we the good people of Fullerton will no longer tolerate what has been and unfortunately continues to be a cesspool of corruption known as the FPD. That we know that the action of the FPD was done with the obvious blessings of our City Council, City Attorney and City Manager only proves how deep the corruption is within the City of Fullerton.

All of the above, clearly demonstrates that without a cleaning of the FPD and City Council houses, we the good people of Fullerton will remain in great danger not by common street criminals but by vindictive criminals that either work for or represent the City of Fullerton.

Will the OCDA allow the good people of Fullerton to remain in danger because of their too cozy relationships with law enforcement?

Finally, what does Dan Hughes have to say about all of this. He states that anyone who says anything negative about him is crazy and unstable. In other words, Dan Hughes has nothing of substance to say in his own defense.

What does that tell you Fullertonians about Dan Hughes? Everything.

C-3 please let us know any additional details you have with regard to the Paul Irish dismissal. The truth must be told!

  6. #10 by C-3 on May 13, 2017 - 11:15 pm

Irish was 86’d for much more than that. He didn’t know yet what they didn’t want him to find out about. Chrome dome Hughes did not walk onto that position with Disney because he looks good with a mickey mouse pin on his lapelle. There is a vast network of which only the players can keep score and win. Irish was an outsider with a keen insight into the criminal mind. In the department, he was surrounded by them. He simply had to go. There are certain elements that led up to his termination that will never be publicly disclosed.

There are several ex FPD officers that would love to spill the beans Joe. How do we reach you privately?

  8. #12 by City of Fullerton Observer on May 29, 2017 - 9:41 am

Dan Hughes has been at the center of most of the worst scandals in the FPD over the last decade.

He should already be in jail if only we had an honorable OCDA who does his job when the criminals happen to be police officers. Our system of justice is more than corrupt, it is totally broken and like our Fullerton City Government requires an entire house cleaning for any chance of reform.

I know what those elements are but I’m not going to lose my life over this

    • #14 by Anonymous on January 27, 2018 - 5:27 am

What is that supposed to mean?

  10. #15 by Edward on January 29, 2018 - 9:09 pm

If there is truth to this and based on the amount of detail, I don’t doubt that there is, then what can be done at this point? Arbitration failed. Was this sumbitted to the Grand Jury in Orange County?
