I REPORT YOU DECIDE-By Barry Levinson
Yesterday, like most of you who live in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District (FJUHSD), I received a four-page color brochure from those bureaucratic “friends”.
F.J.U.H.S.D. BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Marilyn Buchi |
Andy Montoya |
Robert N. Hathaway |
Barbara Kilponen |
Robert Singer Ph.D. |
This is the third full color brochure that has been sent out by the FJUHSD this year. Each time they have written that they are considering a new bond issue. Well, now they have set a date — August 5th, 2014 — where they will consider placing this $175 million bond issue on the November 4, 2014 ballot.
My understanding is that this bond issue will be long-term, maybe 25 years or so in length. It is irresponsible that the board would be considering this so late in the year.
This will increase our taxes for the length of the bond and citizens should have ample time to review the bond issue before it comes before the people.
First the board wastes our money by mailing 3 separate high priced color public relations brochures. Now they want to pass this bond issue with less than 3 months for the public to learn the details of both the cost of the bond and what supposedly the bond money will be used for within the district.
A responsible board would have proposed this bond issue at least 3-6 months earlier in the year. It seems the board purposely has waited until the very last moment to spring this very large bond issue on the public. A transparent and open board would not have waited so long. They still have not provided the public with the details we will need to make an informed decision.
We the public must be provided this detailed information as soon as possible about the need for the bond, a detailed accounting of where the money will be spent, and the specific cost of this bond issue over the life of the bond both in the aggregate and to each homeowner as well.
The district says it will “only” cost “the typical homeowner” approximately $50 dollars a year. Taxpayers must remember that the $175 million dollar price tag is the principal value of the bond. We the taxpayers are on the hook for all the interest as well which could increase the total cost of the bond 2 or 3 times.
Three PR color brochures, all have two things in common. First, they all provide almost identical information. Therefore, I see no good reason why the district spent the money on all three brochures. Second, all the brochures are lacking details which would help us make a reasonable and informed decision on both the necessity and the cost effectiveness of this bond issue.
In conclusion, the board should be embarrassed that they waited so long to consider placing this bond issue on our November ballot. The arrogance displayed by this board to present this to the taxpayers at this very late date is just incredible. Good governance requires better and we the people demand better from every member of this board. Be forewarned, that anyone who votes for this last minute bond issue will be targeted for removal from this board.

Thank you for this Barry.
Fullerton High School has been falling apart for a long time. The landscape is dead dirt, rusted rails, busted up pavement, there are holes in the ceilings, missing and burned out lights, graffiti, etc. The place is a joke. Troy is showing its age big time with band aids on the asbestos wounds.
What the heck did they do with all of the money that continues to be legally extorted from the taxpayers over the last ten years with the last bond scam these folks cooked up?
I find it amazing that the architects of this latest scam are in the education business and in order to successfully bamboozle the voters and get this passed, they rely on ignorance and apathy. This is a direct contradiction to the reason for their existence.
So they purposely pull this out of the hat at the very last minute, they make sure there is very little specific concrete information available to the public to review and research prior to it going to their elected representatives for a vote. How is an uniformed public to weigh in on whether or not the Trustees should pass it? Do they like an uninformed apathetic public? Of course they do-check out how many attend the board meetings as they show off their new purses while they go over balance sheets with so many zeroes on them it would make your head spin.
In the meantime, they make sure there is not enough time to amply digest the measure and make an informed decision as a voter all the while making bogus claims about rusty pipes and the like being in need of repair. Are you telling me they are going to repipe and put reverse osmosis drinking systems in with circadian lighting? Yeah right.
They continue to allege that the current budget hasn’t the adequate funding to deliver a high quality education but yet they boast in their glossy mailer that they are actually providing the students a high quality education right now.
Look, I didn’t just falloff of the turnip truck. These folks are dumping this a few months before the election like snake oil salesmen rolling down the sawdust trail.
Educrat teat sucking lackeys, listen up please.
You train the kids to learn how to research and yet you give their parents nothing to research.
You train the kids to think critically and you send out brochures that insult the parents’ intelligence.
You teach the kids how to do math up to levels that would blow most of our minds and you send out information that is missing all the integers.
You teach the kids how to be honest, value integrity, and do the right things for all involved. Yet you use deceptive wording and put unethical time constraints on the parents in regards to getting informed in time to get involved with their elected representatives.
How do you justify your actions in light of what you are teaching these kids?
You orchestrate what appears to be a con job, scam, bond measure that only covers for the mismanagement of the hundreds of millions of dollars that the last ponzi scheme was supposed to fix. What is this some kind of a joke?
What do we tell our kids? Do we tell them that the truth that there is never enough money available for lazy people who are addicted to the taxpayer teat. Guess what-we are going to do our best to make sure it dries up and you live within your means like the rest of the world.
Based on the fact that your outreach is aimed at and catering to the lowest common denominator, and that you are banking on the voters not being able to think for themselves, your organization is not worthy of another couple hundred million dollars. It is simply because you have failed in your duty to educate the students and turn them into critically thinking productive citizens. Instead you rely on the ignorance and shallow thinking of the voters to further your agenda to keep your gravy train on the tracks. If that is the finished product of the FJUHSD over the last 25 years or so, then maybe we need to find something else for you folks to do besides mulling around the coffee pot all day and get involved in solving some of our real problems. There is no shortage of those.
