I REPORT, YOU DECIDE-by Barry Levinson.
I want to thank all the good people from all over California who graced our city with their presence last night at our Fullerton city council meeting. They really showed everyone there that the truth will win out over the public relations machine known as our current FPD.
One of the speakers asked Dan Hughes to produce the DAR’s (Digital Audio Recordings) of those officers who arrested the protesters the day of January 18th, 2014 which will allegedly verify that one or more officers taunted the arrestees, with the chant, Not Guilty, Not Guilty with a broad smile. One or more of the officers then allegedly stated that when the protesters are handed over to the sheriff deputies, that they will have their faces beaten in.
Well I now demand that Dan Hughes hand over these DAR’s to prove whether or not those accounts made by I believe all those that were arrested are indeed the truth.
The clock is ticking Dan Hughes and we expect that information to be presented immediately. After all you always tell us that the new FPD is open and transparent and therefore, should have absolutely nothing to hide from the public.
One more thing Dan Hughes. What is the more serious crime? A non-violent failure to disperse or a specific threat to 10 people in Fullerton Police custody that their faces will be beaten in by OC sheriffs. Sounds a lot like the threat that Ramos made
against Kelly Thomas on July 5, 2011.
Since these terrible allegations against the police were reported extensively right after the arrests on January 18, 2014, why did you not have the answer to that question last night?

Mr. Levinson, I suggest that you submit a formal written request via certified mail to the Chief of Police, the City manager, and each council member asking for an investigation into the alleged conduct of these officers.
At the very least, those officers should be suspended for making criminal threats, and pending a psychological evaluation, possibly even terminated. There is no shortage of qualified people in today’s job market with the skills to carry out the duties of a police officer in a lawful and civilized manner.
If any of the aforementioned individuals refuses to address this issue, I suggest diligently working towards their removal from their positions or their respective offices. It is an election year.

Roger, the request I believe was made at the last council meeting with Dan Hughes present.
Many times I have heard the chief say he can’t give out certain information because of POBAR. But how many times have we heard our good chief actually call for its repeal or even its being amended to allow for greater access to police personnel records by not only the public but also are city council as well.
The answer as far as I know is a big fat zero. On one had the chief bemoans the fact that his hands are tied because of POBAR, yet never speaks out for its repeal. The hypocrisy is dripping off our Police Chief’s uniform.
We need leadership that respects the rights of the public and understands that police deserve no less or no more rights than any other citizen in this state. I understand and approve of keeping hidden the home addresses of our police officers to protect their families from criminals who may hold a vendetta against them for an arrest. However, POBAR protects police officers from any oversight outside of the department.
To put it another way, when it comes to our police department, the patients run the asylum and the public pays a very large price for this insanity. I know that there are some good officers. However, their silence over the Kelly Thomas death and many other known bad acts by Fullerton police officers tells me that the bad officers seem to have an upper hand within our police department. Chief Hughes has not corrected this problem.
I have said it before and I will say this again. Dan Hughes can hold FPD Open House Day every year for the next century and it still does not mean that our FPD is an open and honest department.
When will many members of the public learn that they are being played for fools by our leaders.
By the way, it is now 5 weeks and counting that the good chief has still not told me who has replaced Reserve Officer Wallis to head up sex offender registry and enforcement of our sexual predator laws. If no one is dong this job, it means our children are left helpless against the sick pedophiles who you know are watching and waiting to strike.
And the majority of this council, the city manager and the city attorney call this collaborating with me to ensure our kids safety. I call it a deliberate stall tactic not to inform the public.
