Would you vote to elect Larry Bennett to the Fullerton City Council after he declared 2 years ago that Mr. Levinson was unfit to serve the city as Park and Recreation Commissioner and stated that being in favor of removing him was an easy call? Indeed for Larry Bennett it was an easy call, because he obviously did not care that the video evidence from the city hall video system proving that Mr. Levinson was totally innocent was not yet made available to the public (for over 2 months after the date of the alleged incident). This vital piece of documented, objective, visual evidence apparently was not important for Larry Bennett to view. What does it tell you about the judgment, the objectivity, and dare I say, the character of Larry Bennett to jump to that conclusion easily, according to him without the video feed.
The same can’t be said about Police Chief Dan Hughes, who had access and obviously reviewed the video tape shortly after the alleged incident, where he learned first hand that the investigation he admits he instigated and led from the very beginning was bogus from the start. Yes Fullertonians, our Police Chief in my opinion had to have known that those accusations against Mr. Levinson were bogus from the early stages of the investigation, which he personally led.
Thought for the Day! Maybe just maybe that is why Police Chief Dan Hughes took the reins of this investigation from the very start. You also had Jan Flory, Jennifer Fitzgerald, Doug Chaffee and even Greg Sebourn all agree that Mr. Levinson should be removed from his committee post without seeing the video (or at least that is their story). (Mr. Sebourn stated for the record that if he had appointed Mr. Levinson, he would have removed him, again without the need apparently to see the key piece of evidence, the video, which would show Mr. Levinson’s innocence.)
However, the self-described totally objective, non-political Police Chief, Dan Hughes decided to release the video to the public only after a big time show by city council was performed, whose only purpose was to humiliate Mr. Levinson and get him thrown off the Park and Recreation Committee (with the one exception being Council member Whitaker who withheld judgment until he could see the evidence for himself and then after he reviewed it, he also found the charges bogus).
Question? Could that be the reason it took Police Chief Hughes over two months to make available to the public the city video evidence that clearly showed that nothing happened that night and that the charges were a city hall conspiracy led by Chief Hughes and others on the Fullerton Dais. Dan Hughes later admitted at council that he contacted the so-called victim, not the other way around and led the entire investigation. How in the name of God, could Dan Hughes finalize his self-described personally written Police Report recommending to the OC District Attorney that Mr. Levinson be charged with crimes without even a mention of that vital, crucial video tape? It seems to me if the Chief heard that there might have been this crime committed under his very nose in the city hall lobby during a city council meeting with numerous police officers including Chief Hughes in attendance, he would have viewed the city hall lobby video tape first. Look how much time, money and city manpower could have been saved if only Police Chief Hughes would have done what any average rookie patrol officer would have done first in that investigation.
Finally, it must have been an extremely slow 2 months that the Police Chief could personally devote so much time and effort in what appears to clearly be an attempt to try to railroad an innocent person whose only crime has been to stand up for the people of Fullerton. I guess this demonstrates that is the one so-called crime that this city will not tolerate.
In my opinion based on all the facts, it would be an easy call (to use Larry Bennett’s vernacular) to come to the unavoidable conclusion that Police Chief Dan Hughes is a vindictive, corrupt, lying SOB, not only willing but very eager to engage in his own criminal activity. However, I will let the good people of Fullerton and beyond to make their own determination.

Good article. At least they used a few paragraphs to explain the realistic picture and not just the biased picture. I’ve heard for 20 years calpers was going broke. I don’t believe it.
Chuck Reed is a prick. Billions are being spent each time he opens his dirty mouth. He keeps losing which is good.
As long as the system stays alive with current contributors all will be fine. One of Dirty Chucks tactics were to try to do a 401k type system knowing that if he could shut down the contributions he could bankrupt the system. Wonderful idea. Could you imagine if you ended the agreed upon retirement benefits to millions and millions of retirees, a majority that are elderly or much older? Disastrous. It’s not their fault that when California was booming financially all the cities and states agreed to provide good retirement systems to public employees. Those systems have changed drastically since then with more contributions by members.
Unfunded liabilities will always be there. Just like US debt, it will be addressed each year and hopefully lowered. I support good retirement systems for public employees. I mean look at the haters hate when those employees get measly raises? Yes, the last 10 years Fullerton police and fire have ended up losing money. Another thing Joe or Barry won’t research because they know it won’t fit their biased agendas.
