Barry Levinson-My Thoughts on the Fullerton City Council’s Unanimous Vote Passing a Resolution Supporting Proposition 13 and Other Recent Local Developments

BARRY LEVINSON

The FUJHSD has placed a $175 million bond issue on the

November ballot. The NOCCCD has placed a $574 million

bond issue for North Orange County on the November ballot.

The city of Fullerton when it has the chance to pass

meaningful public labor negotiation reform says no thanks

but we can sure pass a sham C.O.I.N. ordinance instead.

Finally, the city is attempting to ram down our throats a

huge undemocratic power grab by City Manager Joe Felz.

Another really bad idea from the same city that allowed the

bars in downtown Fullerton to expand exponentially in the

90′s and then at the turn of the century shackled the city’s

taxpayers with a huge retroactive pension increase for our

police and firemen that will eventually cost the taxpayer’s

10′s of millions of dollars under the guise that it would cost

the Fullerton taxpayers nothing at all.

Now don’t we all feel much better that our council passed a

meaningless resolution in support of Prop 13. I would not be

poking fun at this resolution if the majority of our council

were doing a good job with making policy that would create

a financially healthy and open city government. But the fact

is they have not even come close to that goal. In fact the

majority of the council I believe does not even have that goal

for the city and its citizens.

We need much better on our council and we better start

demanding much better from our council. If we do not

have the right mix of council members that want to do the

right things for our city, it is the public’s responsibility to

put enough pressure on those officials to force them by

overwhelming public opinion to do the right things despite

themselves.

Let us start with pressuring our city council to vote down the

DCCSP. It is a real shame that we as citizens have to force

some of our elected officials to do the right thing.

Check out this exchange on Facebook between Sean Paden’s campaign manager Ryan Cantor and Barry Levinson. Looks like the phrase ” Just last month, Council member Sebourn dumped his own choice for the water board, Thom Babcock for the person supported by Chaffee and Flory.”got the ball rolling alright.

To some, it looks to be a very interesting campaign trail being blazed ahead and to me it has seemed like the twilight zone for years on this towns political landscape. So once again, check out this exchange. Here we go.

    I Report, You Decide.

According to Lou Ponzi of the OC Register, the Fullerton City Council will take up the DCCSP discussion at its next council meeting on August, 19th, 2014. I am assuming Mr. Ponzi’s reporting is accurate.
Question: Why then did the council not disclose this to a full house of the public waiting patiently for over 4 hours on August 5th to discuss their concerns with the DCCSP plan before it was postponed? It appears that their postponement and then their failure to set a date certain during the last council meeting is just another example of the lack of openness and transparency by those individuals. Why did Mayor Chaffee wait to the eleventh hour both literally and figuratively to decide to notify the 7,000 residents living in the DCCSP area? If that was important to him I believe those notices should have been sent out by the city months ago.
It is interesting to note that when I point out these types of failures by our city, the majority of the council automatically dismisses these facts. Well at some point in time, hopefully in the near future, a majority of the people of Fullerton will get wise to these deceptive tactics employed by City Manager Joe Felz and Mayor Chaffee and his usual supporters on the council which are Jennifer Fitzgerald, Jan Flory and even sometimes unfortunately Greg Sebourn.
Before people question my including Council member Sebourn as a sometimes ally of the other 3 council members, please review his total voting record. You will see that my statement is factually correct.
Just last month, Council member Sebourn dumped his own choice for the water board, Thom Babcock for the person supported by Chaffee and Flory.

Ryan Cantor Barry, Pete is a great choice for that appointment. It’s a real shame you’re choosing to make an issue of it.

There are much better uses of your time and critique. Pick one.

Barry Levinson Ryan spoken like a true political operative who is desperately trying to change the subject. I never even mentioned whether Pete is a good choice or not. It is irrelevant Ryan. If Greg Sebourn thought Pete was the better choice he should have nominated him rather than Thom Babcock. But Ryan you already knew that sir. Finally, do not ever again have the audacity to tell me how I should spend my time. What an incredibly arrogant and rude comment sir. Is this an example of the real Ryan Cantor? I hope you have the decency to apologize to me right here and now.

Ryan Cantor Barry, don’t be an asshole (political operative? Seriously?). I’m MORE than happy to engage with you on issues that benefit the town we live in– but if you’re going to insist on alienating anyone that has a critical word for you, you’re going to find yourself in a very lonely and dark corner. You can be a real asset to our community . . . when you choose to be. Providing some perspective on what a good choice looks like is hardly arrogant or rude. Now your reply? I’m afraid that is. Good luck to you.

Barry Levinson Ryan I do not use curse words. Of course you did not respond to my specific comments. I called you a political operative because you were the campaign manager for Matt Rowe in 2012 and now I understand you are the campaign manager for Sean Paden. I t…See More

Ryan Cantor That’s ok, Barry. You have your rep. I have mine. Try not to be so angry. You’ll do better.

Barry Levinson Ryan in the future please try to have a conversation or debate without reverting to name calling. You are very humorous to call me the angry one. One more time trying desperately to change the topic.

Ryan Cantor Barry, scroll up. Hate to break it to you, but calling someone arrogant and rude, aside from being assholish, is name calling.

Joe Imbriano Mr. Babcock got shafted and there was an opportunity to allow him to finish out his term. I believe he was entitled to that. What is with all the name calling gang? At any rate, in my opinion, Greg made a bad decision in going along to get along that…See More

Barry Levinson, as usual, does his homework before he opens his mouth. It is a good example to follow if one seeks get elected and to make a much needed difference in a town that is on its way down the wrong road.
