Is this really all the protection pedestrians and cyclists are afforded in Fullerton?

A Recent Incident I Witnessed in Downtown Fullerton by

Fullerton Resident Susan Levinson.

After hearing Fullerton resident Judith Kaluzny speak at the last City Council meeting about much needed awareness for pedestrians crossing our streets within the crosswalks I am reminded of a situation that I witnessed a few months ago.

While driving my car south on Harbor Blvd. just north of Chapman at approximately 10 in the morning I stopped at the crosswalk to allow a pedestrian to cross from Angelo & Vinci’s restaurant towards Big Slice Pizza.  In the lane next to me was an on-duty Fullerton motorcycle policeman.  The officer and I both watched as the woman began to cross in the crosswalk and then 2 cars heading north drove right through the crosswalk forcing the pedestrian to stop mid-stream & jump back to the curb.  The policeman watched both cars drive right through the crosswalk, endangering the woman’s life. Yet, even though the officer was in the fast lane and could have easily and safely made a U-turn to pull one or both drivers over, he did not.

After the woman made it safely across the street the traffic resumed, and the officer and I pulled up next to each other at the stoplight.  I rolled my window down & asked him why he didn’t pull over either of those drivers as the pedestrian had the right of way.  His response to me was:  “I don’t like that crosswalk”.  I’ve told them it’s not in a good place”.  I said, “But isn’t it against the law to drive through the crosswalk when the pedestrian is already there?”  He replied, “Yes.”  I said, “Then you should have cited both of the drivers.”  He answered with a nod yes of his head and drove away as the light turned green.

It is not a police officer’s job to choose which crosswalks he or she likes or doesn’t like when it comes to enforcing the law.  It is his or her job to protect and serve.  Because our police department may not protect us as pedestrians we must be ever more vigilant about walking around our town.

In light of the recent tragic accidents involving crosswalks, this story by a prominent community member should be cause for concern and action by our local government. What is going on with all the traffic safety grants? Fullerton streets are downright dangerous for a variety of reasons ranging from drunk drivers, huge potholes, congested intersections and now the free for all on the roads that our beloved police department apparently now allows for while they all hang out downtown enjoying the sights and sounds. I mean what do we pay these people for anyway?

Instead of making the crosswalk safer or eliminating it, the officer’s solution is to ignore enforcement at it and let someone eventually get maimed or killed? It is now known that there is a problem there and they have allegedly repeatedly ignored it. Liability now exists for the city in the strictest sense. So here is a story by someone who witnessed what could have easily been a fatality and a cop who apparently could care less. It could have been your mom, your kid or even you. Word to the wise, stop look and listen, look left, right, left again and proceed with caution because the only one that may have your back in the crosswalk could be the undertaker.

    OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!
    THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!
ALL GOOD CITIZENS OF FULLERTON SHOULD TURN OUT AT THE NEXT CITY COUNCIL MEETING AND DEMAND AN EXPLANATION!!!

  3. #3 by Better yet on February 19, 2015 - 12:51 pm

Instead of turning out for the Council meeting, turn up the heat on the FPD. Chief Hughes should be receiving e-mails and calls regarding this and other incidents around Fullerton.

Uh, if everyone who deserved a traffic ticket actually got one, there wouldn’t be any cars left on the road.

How many of you have ever driven over the speed limit? Rolled through a Stop sign? Sped through a yellow light before it turned red? And yes, even driven through an intersection while a pedestrian was crossing the street?

If cop wouldn’t have given the driver a ticket, you’d be whining about him being a nit-picky prick.

It’s common knowledge that this is the “We hate cops” blog, but really?

Can’t you nitwits come up with something better than this?

At least that ridiculous, embellished, nonsensical MLK Day tasing incident from a few weeks ago showed some imagination.

Maybe you should tell Atty. Judith Kaluzny about no need to ticket drivers that almost hit pedestrians in crosswalks. Since her pedestrian daughter was severely injured by a driver you might have a better understanding of another perspective.
Ms. Kaluzny’s article is in the Fullerton Observer.

You are missing the point. Someone could have been injured or killed. Mrs. Levinson was lucky the officer didn’t arrest her or beat her to death for questioning him.

This is not a “hate cops blog”. This blog is about exposing those who love evil and those who refuse to do anything about it that have a responsibility or duty to do so.

You know the the kind of evil like cops murdering innocent people, DA’s rigging trials and jury pools, school district officials and employees sterilizing school children with forced wireless exposure, telecom industry scientists covering up the reason for the autism explosion, locals who make a living off of keeping it spiralling out of control, doctors ruining children in the delivery rooms and in their offices, divorce hacks who make a living off of destroying families and ruining children’s lives, business owners who drown our youth in endless liquor, lying sac of crap wireless company employees along with their xray vision city hall groupie that glorify sticking cell towers next to schools and homes that beam cancer and sterility causing microwaves into women and children’s children’s bedrooms, rubber stamp commissioners whose room temperature IQ’s allow for the empty contracts, procedural violations to go unnoticed and ten story tilt ups to abound, school district employees and officials that allow or cover up for rigging elections, grades and college letters of recommendations while driving kids to aderall addictions, promoting perversion, teaching scientific fraud all while promoting color of law forced vaccinations and brain damaging common core, school board members that ignore thousands of scientists scientific studies that warn against the very things they are doing to kids, the play it safe phony conservatives whose playbook consists of narrow fiscal issues while ignoring the real issues and the plight of the many who are afflicted, phony Christian leaders who sell out their constituents to the highest bidder, phony Christian pastors who hold the truth in unrighteousness and pickpocket people on Sunday mornings while they put everyone to sleep, city officials trying to rob the taxpayers for their pals, ruin the city and frame people, local so called journalists who ignore or condone killing babies in the womb, pushing sex ed on 5 year olds, opening the borders, taxing to death and destroying our economy, disarming the American people, glamorizing perversion while promoting forced medical procedures on everyone. If you don’t stand against these things, then you are for them.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah some nitwit on a motorscooter that thinks it’s ok for near misses because he doesn’t like the location of the white lines muchless the horror and agony of a mom, dad, son, daughter or spouse never coming home again all because some GED and some lazy lame moron city planner refuses to address what almost produced a human being with 75,000 mile of circulatory system created in the image of God ending up getting slabbed over at McAuley Wallace because maybe this dolt just couldn’t wait to go check out the hotties pole dancing over at the slime bar. Yeah this is a hate cop blog alright.

May I suggest the Observer of the Ragister for your next trip to the latrine? Perhaps.

I say we get this guy locked in a humidor, give him a shiny microphone and a green uniform. He’ll fix everything.

Mr Zapata, the humidor could not hold him, the uniform would be a distraction and the microphone he already has. You are simply reading the transcripts right here along with many others.

It’s funny how everyone is so obsessed with and fixated upon Joe. I know him well and he’s a fearless and brilliant guy. Just call him a conspiracy theorist and put that on his Wikipedia page. That is all you need to do.

Given Joe’s discernment, he and his family are light years ahead of what has already been done to you and yours. Honestly, I wish I would have taken more of his advice to heart years ago.

Obsessed with Joe??? Worried about Joe is more accurate. Joe, seriously, get to a doctor and soon!

You are right. Hey Joe, make appointments with all the Education Doctors in Fullerton. They cannot refuse to meet with you. Give them all the information on what they are doing to the children and make them all criminally liable for their actions.

Don’t worry about Joe, he’s one of the few that has his head on straight.

how compassionate of you to think of him, though . . . maybe since your views are at such odds with this blog, you would be happier elsewhere.

Apparently, FPD cops can decide which crimes they will enforce and which they will not.

That was a gross violation of public safety, there is no other way to describe it. The traffic is getting very dangerous, especially running red lights, which has been getting more frequent.

  6. #22 by The Fullerton Follies on February 19, 2015 - 10:32 pm

Well if people like Boooh can rationalize the murder of Kelly Thomas by the cops, of course they are going to rationalize this as well.

Boooh says we hate cops. Why? I guess because we expect them to do their jobs.

Just another example of how the citizens of Fullerton do not get what they pay for when it comes to the policing of this city.

You see Boooh, a Fullerton motorcycle traffic cop is supposed to uphold the traffic laws. If you have the audacity to state that a traffic violation that almost hit a female pedestrian is not a big deal, you truly are shameless. Maybe it just part of the FPD’s assault on women.

I remember watching a recent city council meeting on the internet when the police chief stated that he could hate someone but still objectively do his job. This traffic cop simply does not like this cross walk and he still cannot do his job. What would happen if the traffic cop hated that crosswalk? Maybe he would be the one almost running over that poor women. All in a days work of a Fullerton police officer. No qualms about not doing his job and no problem not serving and protecting the public.

    • #23 by FPD anti-women?? on February 20, 2015 - 10:21 am

I think you are correct, “maybe it is just part of the FPD’s assault on women.”

FPD Ron Bair is a prime example, as he is charged in a federal case in what seems to be extreme sexual exploitation of a homeless mom. Didn’t another FPD get fired for exchanging sex with females he had stopped? Seems to me that is the recent history.

FPD appears to be against women. What gives?

  7. #24 by Anonymous on February 20, 2015 - 11:36 am

Remember a council meeting a few years ago. Dan Hughes was representing the FPD and Samara tried to talk to him during break time and he shouted an explicative at her. Why did Danny Hughes act so unprofessionally to a citizen of Fullerton? What is his problem with women?

Was there any repercussions against Hughes? Of course not. Instead all the female council members voted to make Hughes police chief. I thought they were for women’s rights. I guess only their friends.

    • #25 by anonymous on February 20, 2015 - 1:15 pm

It appears from his actions and statements that Dan Hughes is unraveling.

  8. #26 by The Good, The Bad and The FPD on February 20, 2015 - 6:12 pm

It is amazing to me how a traffic officer can ignore potentially deadly traffic violations because he doesn’t like that crosswalk. The arrogance of some in the FPD is second to none. I see very little if any improvement in the attitude of the FPD.

The way I see it, that is a problem that starts at the very top of the department.

    • #27 by City residents and the FPD is currently too busy fending off KT civil suit...wonder why? on February 23, 2015 - 4:37 pm

      • #28 by The FPD…Do they have any limits and do the citizens have any recourse? on February 25, 2015 - 2:16 pm

It is important to point out the following contradiction. While a woman is almost run over and the incident is ignored by our police, the FPD on the other hand has plenty of time, manpower, money and the will to do everything in their power to try to put people in jail for failure to disperse (I guess quick enough for our masters) in a public outdoor place. There is something terribly wrong in the city of Fullerton.

  9. #29 by Wild Wild West on February 21, 2015 - 8:03 pm

Remember folks that the Fullerton police officer not enforcing the above mentioned serious traffic violation is a traffic officer. This is what he is paid to do full-time. Yet in his own words he says he doesn’t enforce traffic laws that do not meet with his approval.

The last time I checked police officers were supposed to enforce the law not ignore it based on their likes and dislikes.

But in the newly reformed, transparent Fullerton Police Department, selective enforcement is still the name of the game.

This is a department run amok. They know vis a vis Kelly Thomas that they can cause a person’s death and still not be held legally accountable. So of course they feel that they can do just about anything else they like with impunity.

My suggestion if you want to live in a city where the police officers enforce, respect and obey the law, you need to move somewhere else. It is dangerous to live in a city where the police think they can act like kings.

    • #30 by Anonymous on February 22, 2015 - 10:35 am

At first glance, you guys all seem to be majoring in minors. I did think about and you do have a point. With all the law and order in Orange County, we almost always hand these people a pass. I cannot believe I have been that conditioned. This really was a big deal. What’s more is the crosswalk is still there. I am sure the officer had his reasons for not liking it so perhaps it should be removed. Maybe it needs to come out. Have any of you contacted the traffic department at city hall?

  10. #31 by Wild Wild West on February 23, 2015 - 3:55 pm

Unfortunately, we have no idea as to why that traffic cop does not like that crosswalk. I do know that at lunchtime dozens of kids from Fullerton High School and from the community college walk to Big Slice for lunch. Therefore, I believe it serves a very useful purpose.
